Nässjö–The Railway Town

On Tuesday, October 30th a project was launched in Nässjö, Sweden, with an event to inspire and inform about The Railway Town. Several well known names were among the participants at the event, including the Swedish Railway company SJ´s Chairman Jan Sundling.

About 30 companies with more than 600 employees are active in the railway industry in the municipality. This is the springboard for Railway Town, a title Nassjö now has exclusive rights to in Europe.

imageSome inspiring news at the event was given by Joakim Stenqvist, CEO of Swedish Train Technology. He explained that thanks to a cluster cooperation with other Nassjö Companies, they have won a contract worth 150 million Swedish crowns, for replacing tracks should be replaced on the route between Alvesta and Älmhult.

New ideas were abundant during the evening, not the least in the panel discussion which was moderated Bearing Consulting’s Christer Asplund. The panel consisted of Jan Sundling (Chairman SJ), Torgny Jonsson (HR Infranord), Lennart Andersson (Swedish Transport Administration Manager South), Goran Lindell (Parliamentary Transport Committee) and Anders Olofsson (Train Operating Companies).

imageThe need for education and skills in the industry was frequently discussed. Joakim Stenqvist launched the idea of a Scandinavian Infrastructure School in Nässjö, which further sparked discussions. The questions were many and the discussion among participants was very active.

During the morning, the project manager Holger Jonasson, Marketing Director at Nassjo Näringsliv  AB, arranged guided tour for some of the distant guests from Stockholm and Skåne, before the launch event during the afternoon.
