The European Union is a geo-political entity covering a large portion of the European continent. It is founded upon numerous treaties and has undergone expansions that have taken it from 6 member states to 27, a majority of states in Europe. Croatia’s ‘Yes’ vote to join the European Union puts it on course to be the EU´s 28th member in July 2013. But the low turnout last Sunday suggests the EU does not have the attraction it once did and the expansion beyond Croatia is uncertain.
