As in the previous year, Bearing Consulting has sponsored the Banking Outlook Africa conference, which took place at the Sandton Convention Center in Johannesburg, July 19-23.

A hot topic at the conference was that 230 million households in Africa remain unbanked and this year the conference focused on the technologies and other means that can be used to expand the banking sector in the continent.
Charles Okeahalam of AGH Capital gave a very interesting speech about how to strengthen the balance sheet of a bank and how to manage liquidity risk. Mr. Okeahalam is a PhD in Econometrics from the University of London. Prior to co-founding AGH Capital in 2002 he was the Liberty Life Professor of Financial Economics and Banking at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg.
